Cheese Gnomes

The idea for this game came to me while I was leafing through a copy of Whitebox FMAG. I loved how neatly laid out and how concise it was but it still had too many rules for my liking.  I asked myself if I could make something in the same layout as Whitebox but with the simplicity of Tunnel Goons or Lasers & Feelings. I'd also just finished GMing Isle of Ixx by Skullfungus and had really enjoyed the quick and deadly combat that was based on Into the Odd, but being a novice GM wanted to get the players to do all the dice rolling so I could concentrate of the describing the combat.  I also like games that don't take themselves too seriously,  I want to have a laugh when I role play.

With all this bubbling away in my mind the Cheese Gnomes was born during a stressful session of Aliens where my character was getting its face melted off by a very unpleasant and overpowered xenomorph. A whimsical fantasy world filled with cheese and gnomes was my safe space I guess.

So in 12 A5 pages this is what you get with  Barrow of the Cheese Gnomes: A whimsical version of a classic fantasy setting; One page of rules with a single mechanic for resolving situations (borrowed from Kosmosaurs by Diogo Nogueira); Player facing rolls; Minimal booking keeping for the GM; Super quick character gen; Into the Odd style hit protection; A magic system based on cheese, puns and alliteration; Weird magical relics; Monsters;  Wonky hand drawn black and white artwork; A dungeon map and introductory adventure.
